Windows hosting FAQ
What is Windows hosting?
Windows hosting runs on Microsoft’s IIS web server rather than Linux/Apache, which lets it run ASP.NET applications and connect to Microsoft SQL Server databases. It shares the same underlying platform and specs as our Linux hosting, just a different OS and application stack.
Do I need Windows hosting, or would Linux work?
Choose Windows only if your site specifically needs ASP.NET or MSSQL. Most websites, including WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, run on Linux, if that’s you, our Web Hosting plans are the right fit instead.
Does this support .NET Core?
No. Our shared Windows hosting supports ASP.NET Framework 2.0 through 4.5, but not .NET Core or newer .NET versions. If you need .NET Core, our Managed Cloud Hosting plans support it.
Do I get an MSSQL database?
MySQL databases are included as standard on every plan. MSSQL (Microsoft SQL Server) is available separately as an add-on from £19.99 a month, if your application specifically needs it.
