Because the two protect against different things. Platform backups cover the last seven days and live on the same platform as your site. This keeps an independent copy offsite on Amazon S3, keeps a longer history, and monitors your files daily for unexpected changes.
How does it work?
It takes a daily automated snapshot of your website. From those snapshots you can restore the whole site or a single file to an earlier version at any time.
Where are the backups stored?
On Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service, which provides substantial resilience and redundancy, and is entirely separate from the platform your website runs on.
Are the backups encrypted?
Yes. Backups are stored encrypted using the AES-256 standard.
Do you back up databases?
Yes. Both MySQL and MSSQL databases are supported and can be backed up alongside your files.
What is file change alert monitoring?
Your site is checked daily and you are emailed when the source code changes. Unexpected changes are frequently the first visible sign of malware, so the alert gives you the chance to act early.
What happens if my site gets infected?
Because you hold daily snapshots, you can restore the site to a version from before the infection. Staged restores let you check that version first, rather than restoring blind.
What if I run out of storage?
You can move up to a larger plan at any time from your account, and the change takes effect without interrupting your backups.
